Streamyx, Streamyx...things u have to know...

Arghh, i having a problem with my phone line, means that i can't use my Streamyx, but what i want to write is about Streamyx, things that u have to know....

,

The reason I’m writing this is mainly because I believed we are not using the latest available technology in terms of providing fast internet connectivity. I'm also ex-TMNET Employee (network enginer), and one of my job area was Streamyx, although just a 'touch' about it (plus my research interest as Academician is Computer Networking/Telecommunication).

While our government is talking about increasing broadband penetration nationwide (which is excellent), not much are being done to cater the need existing broadband customer. Majority of broadband users in Malaysia are Streamyx subscriber and only a certain percentage uses other broadband provider. Streamyx uses ADSL technology specifically ADSL G.Lite (up to 1.5Mbit/s) and ADSL G.DMT (up to 8Mbit/s) and currently offers strictly out-of-date package for its customers;

But first let us look at what ADLS is all about. Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a form of DSL, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional voiceband modem can provide. It does this by utilizing frequencies that are not used by a voice telephone call. A splitter or micro filters allow a single telephone connection to be used for both ADSL service and voice calls at the same time. Because phone lines vary in quality and were not originally engineered with ADSL in mind, it can generally only be used over short distances, typically less than 3mi (5 km).

The ADSL technology that being implemented by Telekom Malaysia is already outdated. Major ISP worldwide is using ADSL2/ADSL2+ now. ADSL2 offer speed up to 12Mbit/s and ADSL2+ offers an even faster speed, up to 24Mbit/s. It is quite embarrassing isn’t it? We boast about the excellent infrastructure MSC can offer for foreign investor but we often forget our own people. We are seriously lacking of good broadband infrastructure. Want to know something…? Iran and Lebanon have ADSL2+ for their broadband connection. How come a war torn country have better Internet connectivity that Malaysia?

I’m urging the governing authority (MCMC) to put pressure to TM to upgrade their streamyx technology and unbundle the local loop. This is no longer an era when one incumbent company monopolise everything. It’s about time they acknowledge the customer’s need. Being a GLC they suppose carry the country aspiration and shoulder the responsibility to provide the best broadband experience in Malaysia.

It is unfair for me to say TM hasn’t made any move at all. Recently they have introduced metro-e. It’s not related to streamyx but will definitely provider better broadband experience (we are talking about up 1Gbit/s). Unfortunately, the current implementation is limited to business and corporate user. Metro-e for residential is underway but I don’t think we are going to see it anytime sooner.

Before I end my discussion, I’d like to offer a few suggestions:

1.       TM must upgrade to ADSL2+. You are slowing us down. We need for more speed. Please acknowledge and understand this issue.

2.       Better pricing package (assuming ADSL2+ in place and ADSL in not capped). This new package will require those download junkies (including myself) to pay more the excess data.

3.       Hasten the  metro-e residential deployment

4.       Where is Wimax? (WTF, i don't think we have expertise on this area)

5.       No more bandwidth capping.

6.       Unbundle the local loop. Allow fresh competition, so there will be a better service.

Yeah, while some complaining about slow download connection (mostly BT download), they should know what BT is all about. It depends on tracker, seeder, location, computer of file's owner and whether your BT has been 'capped' or not (means that TMNET has already limiting your download bandwidth on BT/P2P). I can't assure you whether TM already capping our BT/P2P download for trackers outside from Malaysia, but if you know the tricks, it should not be a problem at all.

And another thing, you can't really blame tmnet also because our  malaysian mentality is the same, got unlimited access means that you must have to download 24/7.....you guys should know that BT is bandwith killer, and if u are in Bandwidth business, Bandwidth is damn expensive.

Ah… last but not least… always remember being a GLC actually means the company belong to the people.

PS: C'mon la TM, upgrade la copper tu wei, dari zaman british lagi....re-engineer semua, tukar ke fiber optic

Muslim Halal Car??? Can you believe it???

Just a news from BBC:

The Malaysian carmaker Proton has announced plans to develop an "Islamic car", designed for Muslim motorists.

Proton is planning on teaming up with manufacturers in Iran and Turkey to create the unique vehicle.

The car could boast special features like a compass pointing to Mecca and a dedicated space to keep a copy of the Koran and a headscarf.

The idea came during a visit to the Middle East by a delegation of Malaysian politicians and businessmen.

Malaysian press reports say officials in Iran originally suggested the idea.

Safety features or fuel economy is one way of selling a car, but Proton thinks vehicles designed specifically for Muslims across the world represent a huge gap in the market.

Proton is the most dominant car on the streets here but the company has suffered recently after the government allowed more foreign cars to be imported.

The firm has been in talks recently with VW about a takeover by the German car giant.

,,,

Well, i have some questions in mind....

1. Since it is 'Muslim' car, means that now we are driving 'kufur' car? Do we commited sinn since it is not 'Islamic' car?

2. How do we define a 'Muslim' car?

Want to have Islamic features in the car? Simple ... paint the car with Islamic green (but people will assume you as a PAS member), go to a car accessories shop to install these features (a compass to find the direction of Mecca, and a compartment to keep the Quran and prayer scarves) and there it is, you have an 'Islamic' car - cheaply and easily. No need to use an existing model or worse still ... spend huge amounts of money to create a new model to do this. No need to waste taxpayers' money on a car model that will not sell.

,

Well, just a footage from so call our 'National' car, moving towards 'Islamic' car...... A picture worth of thousand words.....

proton.jpg
Huh...it is not so 'Islamic' afterall...sigh

The pressure is on...

Argh, it has been a while since i last updated my blog (last post was about Piala Malaysia, Kedah VS Perak, since i went there and seeing Perak being rammed by Kedah). And recent campus activity (election) that really got into my nerve, which actually (as expected) the pro-gov won. And here i'm stuck in the middle, wonder if i want to give up my post as 'Pentadbir/Pemangku' of the biggest and richest residential college in UM (12th college), without having any significant value and credited into my academic post (burden with lot of administrative thingy), and i even can't finish my master on time because of this.....sigh, but alhamdulillah, almost done, part writing malas sikit...)

,

As u all know, recently announce THES ranking, which UM has been dropped out from 200 world best university. This create alarming roar between the academic community, and has become national issue since the declining of our public university, but still UM is Numero Uno in Malaysia (although LAN's survey showing that USM is the best university in MALAYSIA, but u all know that the method is questionable, furthermore it's gov body, not some independence body)....

,

And the pressure is on young academician, to produce paper/citation/journal as much as they can (including me), so now, i really have to work my ass on teaching load, research, college's felo and produce paper, which i see a burdern to me, but i like the challenge anyway. This may sound arrogant, but believe me, UM can't afford to be no 2, just can't. And if it is too much for me, i will just resign from felo's post, and concentrate on faculty (not until the new 'Pengetua' coming)......,

,

well, nothing more to write, just searching for the 'light' i miss, and damn, too many 'kenduri kawin' i have to attend this december.....sigh....

Perak VS Kedah....Final Piala Malaysia

Yes, i do hope Perak will win this time, the last one is in year 2001, but after that we stuck at semi final for 4 years on row. This is the chance ( the last time is in 2002, but they lost to Terengganu, i was at the stadium at that time...)....

,

For Khalid Jamlus, eventhough he sucks and his loyalty no question has been tarnished, well, i do hope he will ram into Kedah's goal. For Kedah, it always be my 2nd favopurite team, cause the 1st stadium i went is Satdium darulaman (during my primary school), but hey, sorry, u will not win this time.

,

And i expected it will be Perak Bashing on this blog since most of my friend are Kedahans, but who the f*** cares, Perak will stop the treble dream for Kedah (if not, someone will relate it to ManU and u know how i really hate ManU)...

,

Kejor Yob Kejor!!!

,

My Prediction: 2-1 win for Perak, hooray!!!

I just have to say indons music rocks!!!!!sigh....

Once upon a time, i was one of 'anti-indonesian's songs', but that was few years back, before i slowly accepted that our brother has beet us with no mercy in the music field. I was very vocal at that time to express my disagreement, until i heard my 1st Indonesian song (Element-Aku Bukan Orang Suci) MTV clip, i began to wonder how creative they were, both music and MTV, compare to ours (same old lame tune, with clip location at construction site, beside highway, car park....). Still, i keep lying to myself that indon songs are no better than us, but, quietly, i began to hear, sing and play indonesian song (secretly), until i declare myself as devout fan of 'band-indon'. But still, 'Irwan Syah-Pencinta Wanita' and 'Samsons-Kenangan Terindah' sucks big time, and their songs really gay!!!!

,

Im sick and tired of the fact that we Malaysians diss our Indonesian brothers flooding our country, Im sick and tired of Malaysians abusing Indonesian maids, but Im really sick and tired of Indonesian music dominating our market now. Almost all major Indo bands have performed and launched their new album and sound over here on our shores. This is proof that we actually love these guys deep down. Lets see, we’ve got Agnes Monica recently, Peter pan, Nidji, Dewa, Padi, etc…Oh not to mention that Inul came by conquering hard with her signature moves!

,

Ok, so lets just see some facts on the death of our Malaysian music scene:

,

1- We welcome these guys as kings

2- We are trying sooo hard to break into Indonesia

3- They’re material are just so good and their performances are top-notched

4- The winner of a Malaysian reality TV show ala ‘make the band’ is Indonesian, they call themselves ‘The Lima’

5- Most of the Malaysian bands are trying to sound Indonesian

6- We dont have concerts for our local artists and bands anymore, we oly feature Indonesian artist

7- We suddenly feel that the Indonesian accent is sexy and commercial

8- Celcom ( A local Telco) endorsed Peter Pan as one of their Ambassadors

9- Indonesians think our music is crap, which I strongly agree

10- Telcos are starting to view Indonesian workers as a new market segment, so imagine how huge this potential market is

So whats next? commercials in Indonesian slang?

Soalan2 bodah yg best jugak nak jawab, 'remaja' aje boleh

I'm normally don'y get involve in this 'personality' test or whatever they call it, but anyway, the temptation is too good to resist. One of my friend always said that 'u always blog a heavy stuff, ringan2 la sikit, things that usually remaja suka baca'. Well, at 1st, i just feel that i wanna show my middle finger to him, but, anyway, it's just for fun.

,

The purpose of blogging is to make reader read your blog. If nobody wanna read ur blog, so why wasting time blogging? So, this type of question i found it in one of the Bulletion Board, so just copy paste it, and wasting 20 minutes of my precious time. So, what the hack, just go and read it.....

Dress code in University? Gimme a break

Mangkuk ayun UUM yg suruh orang pakai kemas2 pegi kuliah (sama l UTM pun). woi, academic excellent bukan base dari etika berpakaian!!! Kalo pakai tie boleh score 4.00, dah lama semua pakai tie, bodoh!!!

from Education Malaysia dot Blogspot dot com

Dress Code Controversy

Ah, this must be one of the favourite issue for our Malaysian leaders. If only they have the same amount of passion when it comes to raising academic standards at our local schools and institutions of higher learning. I've written on the tudung controversy at Universiti Islam Antarabangsa previously, and now Universiti Utara Malaysia faces a similar controversy.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong with the prohibited dress code illustrated on the right above. Can you?

I don't have to say much about the above issue for Clare Eng of UUM had plenty to rant about it here on her excellent blog.

As I’ve ranted and criticised in countless posts before, this university is seriously crappy. Everything here is ridiculous including the rules and regulations especially their emphasis on dress code for their student.

Almost all the non-Muslim female students here wear similar attire to attend lectures, enter the library, see the doctor, dealing with official matter, etc (Yes, it is a MUST!).

She's funny too.

They had the nerve to come up with something this shitty without even conducting a proper survey around the campus. Where to get attire like the fourth girl on the left nowadays? So out-dated fashion where to get?

This is my final year here and I do not want to create any trouble for myself but this kind of ridiculous rules and regulations are getting on my nerves. Why do they have to come up with all these nonsense when they have a lot of other more important issues to skirt?

From the "approved" dress codes above, it appears that for non-Muslims, you are either expected to be suited up entirely, or you'll have to be in baju kurung.

I went to one of the top schools in the UK. Most of the time, I'm in track tops, track pants (badly torn by the final year) and worse, flip-flops. I attend lectures in old t-shirts and torn jeans. And I certainly wasn't the worst dressed nor was I not the norm. I can only speculate that with the decline in the quality of university administrators over the past decades, the focus on form now overwhelms the attention which should be paid to substance.

If anyone out there still insist that there isn't a religious and cultural assimilation (as opposed to integration) agenda and process happening in our country's schools and institutions of higher learning, he or she must be living in a totally different world.

Read also Enki's account of the same issue.

Oh, did you know that students are also "strongly encouraged" to open accounts with Bank Islam? Check out Clare's post here:

As I went about the campus attending lectures and going to the library, I noticed a lot of juniors as well as some seniors from my batch are wearing our Bank Islam ATM card around their necks! Well, the ATM card doubles as our metric card a.k.a. our identity card in the university. From what I heard from the juniors, memos had been passed that students MUST wear the ATM card around their necks like a dog tag! Failing to do so will cause us to become RM50 poorer! WTH!!!

They are absolutely out of their minds.
My comments:
Nasib baik la aku Universiti Malaya, phew, universiti boleh pakai tshirt, jeans koyak2 dan selipar (bak kata Jibam). Kalo x smart/x cerdik tu, pakai blazer pun fail gak. Say no to dress code for student!!!!

Mari ramai2 pegi tgk Piala Asia dan sokong Malaysia!!!

Regardless what people saying about Malaysia Team (incompetant, loser, not fit, etc), let just give our support by attending the game that involve our team. UM nak dipindahkan? Statement paling kurang ajar dan berani

Pak Ungku,

Nak start protest saya akan sokong 200%. I will be with you. This greedy bastard businessman memang kurang ajar, but macammana dia boleh keluar statement cam ni kalo tak di back up 'those u r in power?' We, regardless of race, should all defence our beloved university........

Aku memang dari dulu tak setuju politik masuk UM ni, sebab tu jatuh, kenaikan pangkat melalui politik, semua 'ass-kisser', yg tak layak boleh naik jadi somebody, pse, we need saviour like you pak ungku, pse come and become UM's VC back. Only you can gather support from all the staff and student.....

Oleh Au Yeong How dan Harithisya Shamsuddin
Utusan Malaysia

,

For those who r are not successfull, or less fortunate, or considered by 12th College management (sound so executive!!) not competent enough, you can appeal, but the appeal time will only be open during the senior registration. So, let don't take any chances, and find yourself a nice home to rent, but off course if u r dying to stay here, wait until that day comes, and pse don't ask me when can i know results for those who r not successfull, cause I will be 'fucking' mad. So, again, let don't take any chances here..... I'm not in the good mood here!!!

,

And i sadly announced that i have been promoted to secretary of 12th College (sigh...). This means more money $$$$ but apparently more work, or can be otherwise, since more power, u can order others to do work for you. I prefer the latter than the former.....

FYI, i'm not admin type of guy, or rather management, i'm technical person, but perhaps this will balance my expertise/personality so that i can learn and experience administration/management work in order to ready myself in this globalistaion era (cewah!!!), so that i can expert both in technical and admin (hopefully...).....sound bullshit eh?

Do u guys wath GANGSTARZ, the next supergroup at TV3? Before you start to bashing me as gay reality tv viewer, let me explain to you why i watch that program. There is always a reason for that. Reality TV is not only for girls (arghhh, lame). BTW, the reason behind this is one of the group member of Infinatez (one of among 4 finalist GANGSTARZ), was my former x-roomate during Asasi, that is Alvin Mahathir Yunus. Here is the picture of Alvin and other members of Infinatez:

Alvin, the smallest, in the middle

.

Yes, that is first student i know when i  first 'menjejakkan kaki' dekat UM ni. A quite bit noltagic moment (back in 1999), being roomate for 1 year. His first ambition to be a doctor, since he was in Asasi Sains Hayat, but, less fortunate plus lazy ass what makes him what is he rite now. Yes, this is the first time i seriously followed any reality TV, and i vote him without fail, to support my fellow friends (support member2 wei!!).

I am the first person to bring Infinatez in UM to perform during RPKJ's annual dinner (last year). So Alvin, u must thank me for tha, and they also being invited during our Frenster project, Malam Seni Muzikal, which include Flop Poppy as main artist that nite. So, vote infinatez by typing GS INFIN and send to 39003. Dude, this at least i can do, jgn lupa member kalo menang USD100k!!!!

Ni dari website alvin manage, www.souldelite.com, that mentioning my name, saja je nak berlagak....

Infinatez at Grand Park Royal Plaza

On the 28th of July 2006, Infinatez performed at Grand Park Royal Plaza which is located opposite of Sungei Wang. It was a show for UM RPKJ students (Rancangan Persediaan Khas Jepun). A foundation before the students continue their education in Japan. That's why the lads from Infinatez couldn't make it to Tanchap Keropok which was held a day earlier, they were practicing. But they were actually looking forward to perform at Layar Tanchap that day.

By Andy of Infinatez:
"Guess what? We had only 1 night practice. The night started off with selection of songs, then practice for a few hours, before heading off to the nearest mamak.

We arrived at Grand Park Royal Plaza the following day around 4pm for soundcheck. We were given a ‘pit stop room’ - the VIP room, where we had some last minute rehearsal before they give us our real room where we placed our belongings. Soundcheck was around 6.30 p.m, and it took us approximately 30 minutes to fix the sound. Thanks to our soundman Bard.

Right before the show, we hang out at our room. Actually its kinda surprising because this is the first time that we get a complimentary room for ourselves. So were we so excited. Some of us took a short nap, quick shower, complete our prayers, get prepared before we do our normal routine - ’vocalizing’.

Here are the songs:
Babygirl Ruffedge
I’m Your Man All 4 One
Belaian Jiwa Innuendo
Imamo The Gospellers (A cappella)
Anugerah Yang Terindah Gradasi (A capella)
End Of the Road Boyz 2 Men

We did two intros, two cover songs and two a cappellas. Each of us had the chance to sing a verse or two and showed our capability. The reason why the songs are chosen is because they allow more space for vocal and harmonising play, and familiar to the crowd as well. We surprised them with ‘Imamo’, since most of them can speak and understand Japanese, as if it’s an impromptu thingy. The show was good. The crowd was a bit formal though. But at the end of the night, we did our job and enjoyed the show.

We ended our night with some photograph sessions with friends outside the ballroom. Thanks to Alvin and Saaidal, who helped us in getting the show. And a big thank you to our manager Dato’ Fahmie and Bard as our soundman. Your presence really helped us a lot. You guyz may check out our performance in youtube. Once its posted, we will let you know.."

So, that wrap up announcement and others update as well...... comments are open for anyone....
